How Point Level Detection for Industrial Liquids Work

Dynatrol® liquid level sensors use vibratory sensing principles to detect the presence of material at a specific point. When the process material reaches the liquid level probe, the system provides a switching output that can be integrated into alarms, process controls, or other equipment.

This simple point level approach makes Dynatrol® sensors well suited for applications where the process requires indication that material has or has not reached a defined level, rather than continuous measurement of the entire contents of a vessel.

What is a liquid level sensor?

A liquid level sensor detects the presence or level of liquid within a tank, vessel or other process equipment. Dynatrol® liquid level sensors are point level sensors, meaning they detect whether material has reached a specific location rather than continuously measuring the liquid level throughout the vessel.

A Dynatrol liquid level probe is installed at the point where detection is needed. When process material reaches the probe, the sensor detects the material, and the system activates a switching output that can be used for an alarm, indicator, or process control input.

Dynatrol® liquid vibratory sensors are a strong choice for applications that require rugged, reliable point level detection rather than continuous level measurements. Our vibratory sensors do not depend on electrical conductivity or pressure differential of the liquids, and are designed with no moving mechanical parts.

This makes our vibratory sensor technology the right answer for when your critical question is, has the process material reached a certain point or not?

For applications involving demanding process conditions, liquids or slurries, liquid level sensors provide a straightforward switching signal without the need for a continuous measurement system, especially when continuous level information is unnecessary.

A Dynatrol® liquid level sensor should not be selected when the process requires continuous level measurement. For example, when you need to know that a tank is 37%, 58%, or 82% full. A Dynatrol point level sensor instead determines whether material is present at its installed detection point.

Vibratory sensors are not meant for every liquid application. Process material, temperature, pressure, corrosion, coating or buildup characteristics, mounting arrangement, and required detection function should be reviewed before selecting the sensor and materials of construction.

If the application requires measurement of the boundary between two different process materials rather than simple liquid presence at a point, an interface level sensor may be the more appropriate Dynatrol solution.
